Do You Have Knob & Tube Wiring? Here's What to Know

Knob & tube wiring is common in older Ontario homes — here's why it matters and what your options are.

Do You Have Knob & Tube Wiring? Here's What to Know

What knob & tube is

Knob & tube (K&T) was standard in homes built before the 1950s. It uses ceramic knobs and tubes to run individual wires. It isn't automatically dangerous, but it's ungrounded, brittle with age, and often modified unsafely over the years.

Why it matters

Many insurers won't cover a home with active knob & tube, or they charge much more. It also can't safely handle modern electrical loads, and damaged sections are a real fire risk.

Your options

We can inspect your wiring, identify any active knob & tube, and replace it with modern grounded copper — often in stages so your home stays livable. We provide clear documentation for your insurer, too.
